Today I....

I picked up the jeep from the garage.
Made a start with preparing the paint for the new markings.
Sown the Official Photographer patch on the proper shoulder of my M41 jacket (the right side! not the left)

Received my Welta Weltini camera and gave it a clean and replaced some missing screws.

Payed a visit to the DCLI museum at Bodmin. Absolutely superb place.

Not bad is it - I was there a couple of weeks ago. Caught a glimpse of the records room downstairs when the door was open, frankly I'd rather be in there than looking at display cabinets! Great to see the vets were having lunch in the meeting room too. I very nearly bought the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry badge and insignia to re-badge a uniform had a wave of common sense hadn't hit me.

Yep fantastic place. I`ve been meaning to go there for some time, had to drop the daughter off at Bodmin hospital and had a couple of hours to spare so thought why not. There were a few old bods in the meeting room when we were leaving, a couple upstairs researching family history, the army careers office in the courtyard...its quite the hive of activity for something that looks so sleepy from a distance.

discovered while sorting out my wardrobe of items I don't wear for donating to charity, that I own more shirts for wearing at re-enactment events than I do for work

Had a worrying accident at Zero Bravo's site with the Tanaka K98, I took one of those instinctive snapshots at a player who tried to rush us from behind,range was about 25 metres ( in full view of a marshall ) I went for a body shot but as I fired he dived to the ground to deploy his support gun ,as a result I hit him on the nose.Not that unusual I suppose ,but in this case he was wearing a full face mask and the bb passed straight through it and embedded itself in his nose.
Now I don't know what the quality of his mask was,and I don't know if the bb passed through/under the mesh or if it went through one of the air vents,and I couldn't see a hole in the plastic.What bothers me most was that it could have been his eye.
Is there a BS standard for masks ?
I love my Tanaka ,but incidents like this scare me

There's a lot of factors to consider here. Full face protection may have very good eye protection, yet flimsy face protection. Was it a paintball style mask he was wearing? If so, there's LOTS of little vents for bb's to get through, particularly at high fps. Headshot got a black eye from a bb at Bryansk after it found the gap from the rear and to the side and then bounced around behind the lens. So, even good quality glasses aren't infallible either.

Also, what sort of gas were you using in the K98? It's still pretty warm for the time of year, so green can still push out some very high velocities. A heavy bb at short range carries a lot of energy as well. At 25m, you're pretty much as close as you want to be with a Tanaka with any gas/bb combination.

Having said all that though, I bet it never happens to you again! Freak incidents can and do happen, with any airsoft weapon. Hell, I've seen a tooth shot out by a Marui springer pistol! I'd always say to anyone with a high powered rifle "If in doubt, don't take the shot". Better to go for your sidearm, or even call yourself out than risk injury to a fellow player.

I was using 134A gas and .36 bb's ,but it was pretty hot out there today,I have still only put a couple of hundred bb's through it since I fitted the hop,anything more powerful or lighter bb's and I'm shooting the treetops.His mask looked like an airsoft one,but it was quite soft and flexible,I suspect the heavier mass of the .36 forced its way through one of the small vents.
I have to say when he was rolling around on the floor holding his face it scared the shit out of me.

Don't beat yourself up about it. You aimed for the body and he dived at the same time. Like I said, a freak occurrence. A lot of people have never even seen a Tanaka K98, let alone been up against one. I bet the player in question has learned as much from the incident as you have.

Cokc , well there are two kilts in the wardrobe as well.

They had to cut the BB out with no anesthetic . For some reason known only to evil nurses.'Lucky' for Grant he had lost a lot of nerves in the end of his nose due to a sword injury last year at Azingcourt .

He has done airsoft before. Not a happy kitten . But I think at the moment he has put it down to 'one of those airsoft things'.

Have started to slowly unload all the French kit that was dropped all over the living room floor

Crammed my car full of WW1 gear and drove to work.

Going on to the LPLG-weekend in a few minutes. Will be walking around as a WW1 US Doughboy with a couple of other fellows.

Meh. I'm just angry for a bit. I mean I am a student so it's not like I'm going to live in a cardboard box. But I have been at that shop for 6 f@cking years.

And it was because my lecturers didn't take grouse shooting days into account when constructing this years time table.

Ah I see... you couldn't do the shifts they wanted you to.

That really is rough... especially if you've been working there for 6 years. Not a good way to treat a long term employee at all.

I'd be angry as well.
